Biography

Alexandra trained as a Painting Conservator (MA Cultural Material Conservation, University of Melbourne) and is conducting research and analytical studies concerning the materials and methods of Hugh Ramsay (1877-1906) at the Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation. Previous qualifications include her Postgraduate Diploma in Art History, Graduate Certificate in Art Conservation, Diploma in Art History, Diploma in Applied Linguistics (University of Melbourne); Diploma in Education (University of Queensland); and BA (Arts) Comparative Studies in Literature & History and Italian (Griffith University).

Alex’s research interests include the Methods and Materials of Australian Artists - the work of Max Meldrum (1875-1955) has been a continuing research focus - and the History of Conservation. In October 2008, she co-convened the 11th AICCM Painting Special Interest Group Symposium Looking Both Ways: Connecting the Future to the Past examining the past, present and future of painting conservation in Australia. She is co-editor of the symposium pre-prints Paintings Conservation in Australia from the Nineteenth Century to the Present: Connecting the Past to the Future.

Alex is President of the Victorian Division of Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material, the professional body for conservators in Australia.
