Biography

Jocelyn graduated from the University of Canberra in 2002, on completion of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Conservation of Cultural Materials) degree, specialising in the conservation of paintings. She is also a graduate of the University of Melbourne, completing a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music degree in 2000, majoring in art history and viola studies. Jocelyn joined the Centre in 2003, initially for a one-year internship in paintings conservation, and subsequently as a paintings conservator.

Jocelyn’s past research projects include an investigation into the use of pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for analysing acrylic paint binders, and an investigation into paint-strippers based on dibasic esters. In 2004 she was a finalist in the national science/media competition ‘Fresh Science’ for the latter project. Her current research interests include the investigation of new materials and techniques utilised in the conservation of paintings.

From September 2007 to June 2008 Jocelyn was the Paintings Conservation Fellow at the Straus Center for Conservation, Harvard Art Museums. During her Fellowship Jocelyn undertook major treatments of two 16th century paintings on panel, and completed a detailed technical analysis of one of the artworks.
