Biography

Catherine is a painting conservator at the Centre and also delivers into the Masters teaching program. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Painting Conservation from the University of Canberra (1998) and undertook a post-graduate internship at the Ian Potter Art Conservation Centre (1999). Catherine worked as a painting conservator in New Zealand at the Auckland Art Gallery and from 2003-5 she undertook a two-year Advanced Internship in the Conservation of Easel Paintings at the Hamilton Kerr Institute, University of Cambridge. Prior to returning to Australia to take up her position at CCMC in 2007, Catherine worked as a freelance paintings conservator in the private sector in London.

Catherine has specialist skills in the treatment of European paintings on canvas and panel, and 19th Century Australian paintings. She has an interest in technical art history and has published several research papers (see below).

In 2003 Catherine was awarded the Ruth Tuck Visual Arts Scholarship. She has also received a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship, Ian Potter Cultural Trust and Gordon Darling Foundation funding to undertake her conservation studies abroad.

Catherine is currently acting Senior Painting Conservator at the Centre and is also enrolled in a Master of Arts by research to investigate the methods and materials of Emanuel Phillips Fox.
