Biography

Marcelle has a BAppSc (Cultural Materials Conservation) specialising in objects conservation and a Grad Dip of Arts (Archaeology), with a thesis that focused on rock art site management and conservation. She recently completed the Graduate Certificate in University Teaching from the University of Melbourne. Since joining the Centre in 2001, Marcelle has been responsible for the development and delivery of our teaching and research programs. Marcelle has over twenty years experience in the conservation profession, working in State institutions and with community museums. She was National President of AICCM from 1999-2001, and is the Editor of the peer-reviewed AICCM Bulletin. She is a recipient of the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2006) and a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2007) from the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (read more). In 2007 she was selected for one of the prestigious 2007/2008 Conservation Guest Scholar awards from the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles for research in the areas of conservation pedagogy and interdisciplinarity.

Research

Marcelle’s research interests relate to conservation pedagogy. Her current research investigates interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and practice-based learning exchanges.

Marcelle’s other areas of interest centre around the broad theme of sustainability as it relates to conservation practices, planning and management.

Teaching

Marcelle coordinates the MA in cultural materials conservation, course code 102 CM. She has recently worked the industry peak body, the Australian Institute for Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM) to develop the new Postgraduate Certificate in Photographic Materials Conservation, course code 377 PC, the only course of its kind in the region.
