Indigenous Cultural Maintenance Symposium

Securing the future

The Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, the Wilin Centre, the Koorie Heritage Trust and the Australian Commercial Galleries Association invite you to attend a one day symposium at the University of Melbourne on Monday, 23 February to examine the outcomes from the Senate’s Securing the Future: Australia’s Indigenous visual arts and craft sector (June 2007) and the Government’s response (August 2008), and to explore issues related to support for artists, education and training needs, and effective resourcing strategies.

The symposium will also examine the links between art practice and the development of Indigenous collections in national institutions, and connections across the visual and performing arts.

As part of the Indigenous Cultural Maintenance Symposium, ACGA and CCMC will hold a morning forum on Tuesday 24th February to discuss and develop a series of 'Fact Sheets' aimed at informing the public and the industry about issues associated with problematic art works.
