The Australian War Memorial has a number of conservation laboratories housed in the three buildings of the Treloar Conservation Complex. At the Memorial, conservators care for the Military Heraldry and Technology Collection (ranging from flags, banners, firearms and medals to tanks and aircraft); the Photographic, Film and Sound Collections, encompassing every type of photographic, film, and audio media plus related equipment; the Research Centre Collection of rare books, maps, archival materials, ephemera and digital documents; and the Art Section's sketchbooks, drawings, posters, paintings and sculpture by Streeton, Drysdale, Hele, Churcher and other official and unofficial artists. The Memorial maintains an important programme of preventive conservation for collections on display and in storage. Each year staff from the AWM share their expertise on working with large objects with second year CCMC students and host internship students.
